Let’s dive into your 3 days in London!

Here are 5 things you won’t want to forget when travelling to London

Planning Your Trip

Best Time to Visit

London Big Ben at 3:30

London’s weather is the ultimate wildcard. One minute, it’s sunny; the next, you’re diving into a café to avoid a downpour. In spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), the weather is usually mild, and the city isn’t as crowded as in summer, though rain is still a constant companion.

Summer is the high season with longer days, ideal for outdoor attractions like Hyde Park and the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, but brace yourself for higher prices and throngs of tourists. In winter, London transforms into a festive wonderland with Christmas lights and markets, but be prepared for chilly temperatures and shorter daylight hours.

Getting Around London

Oyster Card

The Oyster Card is your ticket to easy and affordable travel across London’s extensive public transport system. It’s a rechargeable smart card you can use on buses, the Tube, and even some trains.

Buy one at any major station, load it up with credit, and simply tap it when you hop on and off public transport.

It’s cheaper than buying single-use tickets, and the card automatically caps your daily spend at the cost of a day pass, so you won’t overspend.

London Tube (Underground)

Big Ben Structure Near White Concrete Structure

The London Underground, or the Tube, is the fastest way to get across the city. For real-time updates and to avoid any unexpected delays, download the Citymapper app—it’s an absolute lifesaver.

Each Tube line is color-coded, and you’ll be zooming between Westminster Abbey, The Tower of London, and Covent Garden like a local in no time.

Pro tip: avoid rush hour unless you want to practice your sardine impression.

Walking

If time allows, though, walk! Walking through the streets of London is the best way to soak up the city’s character and stumble upon hidden gems.

Whether it’s a quaint alley or an impromptu street performance in Covent Garden, you’ll appreciate London much more on foot.

London Pass Considerations

Selective Photo of 2 Deck Bus Near People

The London Pass can be a lifesaver if you’re planning to visit a lot of paid attractions. It offers free entry to over 80 spots, including top landmarks like The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, and The Shard.

Plus, it includes access to a hop-on-hop-off bus tour, discounts at souvenir shops, and a guidebook.

For a 3-day trip to London, the 3-day pass offers excellent value, but do the math based on what you plan to visit.

If you’re focusing on mostly free museums like the British Museum and National Gallery, it may not be as cost-effective.

But if you’re hitting up the paid attractions, this can save you both time and money.

Accommodation Recommendations

To make the most of your time in London, stay central. The closer you are to the action, the less time you’ll spend commuting. Here are some accommodation options in Central London:

A convenient place to stay is anywhere between Kensington and Covent Garden.

Day 1: Exploring Westminster

8 AM: Breakfast at Regency Cafe in Westminster

Start your London adventure with a proper British breakfast at Regency Cafe in Westminster.

One of the hills I would die on is that posh English breakfasts are bad. They aren’t ”proper”. You need to go to a good, local cafe where posties and builders go to have their bacon baps and massive breakfasts.

Sure – they might nog look insta-tastic, but your breakfast will be both cheaper and nicer.

One of the places I would recommend in Westminster is Regency Cafe. I just love their beautiful tiled outside and their white and blue vintage inside.

Sure, my husband will say it is still too classy (his grandfather was a real cockney to the point that he spoke in cockney rhyming slang!) but it is probably the closest you will get to a good greasy spoon in Westminster!

9 AM: Visit Parliament Square and Big Ben

Royal Guard Standing Near Lamp Post

First stop, Parliament Square, where you’ll be greeted by the imposing Houses of Parliament and the iconic Big Ben. Snap some photos of these historic landmarks and take a moment to soak in the view.

10 AM: Explore Westminster Abbey

From Parliament Square, it’s a short walk to Westminster Abbey, one of London’s most significant historical sites.

This stunning Gothic church has been the coronation site for British monarchs since 1066 and is the final resting place for many royals and famous Brits like Charles Darwin and Isaac Newton.

12 PM: Traditional Pub Lunch near Buckingham Palace

Now that you’ve had a royal start to the day, it’s time for a proper British pub lunch. Head to The Albert on Victoria Street, close to Buckingham Palace. They serve classic dishes like fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, and hearty ales.

🍸 12 Best Cocktail Bars in London You Need to Visit

1 PM: Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace

No visit to London is complete without witnessing the Changing of the Guard. Head to Buckingham Palace and watch the ceremonial handover of duties between soldiers, decked out in their iconic red uniforms and bearskin hats.

2 PM: Stroll Through St. James’s Park

From Buckingham Palace, take a leisurely walk through St. James’s Park. With its beautiful gardens, serene lake, and resident pelicans, this is the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon stroll.

Here you have a bit of time but if you like you can have a nice afternoon tea at The Ritz or Fortnum and Mason’s.

6 PM: Dinner in Westminster

White and Brown Sailing Ship

For dinner, consider The Cinnamon Club, a modern Indian restaurant located in a former library.

Alternatively, if you’re craving a traditional British experience, The Ivy offers a classic dining experience with British cuisine and a modern twist.

8 PM: Ride on the London Eye

End your first day with a spectacular ride on the London Eye. As the city lights up around you, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views over the River Thames and beyond.

Book your tickets in advance, as this popular attraction isn’t included in the London Pass.

Day 2: The City of London and Royal Kensington

8 AM: Breakfast at De Vine

De Vine does amazing breakfast – sure you had an English breakfast yesterday, but when in Rome, right?

The cafe is close to the Tower of London, and if you are on a budget this is also the place to grab one of their AMAZING sandwiches (trust me!)

9 AM: Visit the Tower of London and Crown Jewels

Start your day at the Tower of London, one of the city’s oldest and most infamous landmarks. Take a tour of this historic castle and fortress, which was once a royal palace, prison, and the site of many beheadings.

Don’t miss the dazzling Crown Jewels display, where you can admire the UK’s most precious regalia.

❌ The 10 Most Dangerous Areas in London

11 AM: Walk Across Tower Bridge

Just steps away is the iconic Tower Bridge. You can walk across its upper walkways, which offer stunning views over the City of London. If you’re feeling brave, look down through the glass floors!

12 PM: Lunch at Borough Market

Cross the river and make your way to Borough Market for lunch. This bustling market has been around for centuries and is a haven for food lovers. Grab a gourmet burger, seafood, or perhaps a pastry from one of the many food stalls.

I myself love Borough Market. I used to work basically across from Borough – but I do have to say that it can be on the expensive side. Another food market that is a tiny bit cheaper is Flatiron Square just around the corner. It is much less touristy and just as good!

1 PM: Visit Kensington Palace

Next, head to Kensington Palace in west London, the official residence of several members of the royal family, including the Prince and Princess of Wales. Stroll through the gardens and explore the state rooms filled with royal history.

🎟️ The 12 Best Things to Do in London

3 PM: Explore the Royal Albert Hall (Exterior)

Take a short walk past the Royal Albert Hall, one of London’s most prestigious concert venues. Even if you don’t go inside, the architecture alone is worth seeing.

6 PM: Dinner in Kensington

For dinner in Kensington, try Dishoom for some delicious Bombay-style dishes, or The Scarsdale Tavern for a traditional British pub meal.

Dishoom also has a cookbook which is honestly one of my favourites!

8 PM: Evening Shopping at Harrods Or Fortnums

Why not end the day with a bit of luxury at Harrods? This world-renowned department store is filled with high-end fashion, luxury goods, and even an incredible food hall.

I am going to be honest with you here – I recommend Harrods because it is famous – but if you are into old-world style and class, Fortnum and Masons is where you need to go. Their food hall is to die for (and not always that expensive!), they have a great cocktail bar and even an ice cream parlor. Fortnums also does a great afternoon tea even though it is a bit pricey.

Day 3: Museums, Parks, and Iconic Experiences

9 AM: Visit the British Museum

Start your final day with a visit to the world-famous British Museum. From the Rosetta Stone to Egyptian mummies, this vast museum houses one of the most comprehensive collections of human history and culture.

12 PM: Lunch At Hiba Street Food

After a morning of ancient wonders, grab lunch at Hiba Street Food.

It doesn’t look very chique but the food is just so amazing! I am a very big fan of Levantine food (Lebanon is one of my absolute favourite countries in the Middle East!) and Hiba brings a but of this region to London!

They have shish taouk, they have shawarma, they have Kibeh – all amazing street foods, but then elevated to something that tasts like – well, pardon my French, absolute crack! So good!

1 PM: Relax in Hyde Park

Head over to Hyde Park, one of London’s largest and most famous parks. You can take a rowboat out on the Serpentine, visit the Diana Memorial Fountain, or simply relax by the water and people-watch.

6 PM: Dinner in Notting Hill

End your day in the charming neighborhood of Notting Hill. The first job I had in London was in Notting Hill Gate and so I do price myself in knowing the area a bit.

I had an AMAZING thai dinner at the Churchill arms and I would 100% recommend going here if you are in the area. The Churchill arms is very famous because of all the flowers outside but inside they have food that transported me right back to Thailand (In the last 3 years I have been 7 times so I kind of know the food a bit).

I still love going back there for some food when I am in the area!

7 PM: Explore Notting Hill and Portobello Road

After dinner, take a stroll through the colorful streets of Notting Hill. Walk along Portobello Road, famous for its vibrant market and pastel-colored houses, and soak in the laid-back, quirky atmosphere.
